As you make your way along the interior highways of Ibiza to it Northeast corner, the discos and brash shops of the island's capital succumb to a quaintly agrarian landscape that dead-ends to the hilltop location of Hacienda Na Xamena. A quaff motor court of vintage BMWs and guests in fashionable hats flank a hacienda façade of a somewhat dubious architecture in an unquestionable location facing some of the Balearic's most dramatic rock formations. A glass entryway and interior lobby of marble tiles faces an interior atrium and chunky staircase leading to the upstairs reception.

Native island references like white stucco and stacked-stone walls compliment a Balinese aesthetic that almost feels indigenous to Ibiza. During slower shoulder months like May and October, the hotel takes on a sleepier vibe with in-house boutique offering limited opening hours and Thalasso Spa that works on a scaled-back schedule. The in-house eatery is one of the best of any hotel on the island, offering full-board option for hotel guests and glamorous night out for nearby residents. The restaurant faces the outdoor resort deck and spectacular jagged horizon of island outcropping with massive free-form pool with tanning ledge of some of Ibiza's most fashionable hotel guests.

The Room

A collection of 8 room categories includes a total of 65 accommodations with most offering head-on sea views. But before you get to the view, rooms are accessed along dark and cavernous hallways that seem to stretch further than any natural daylight can reach. Standard rooms are located on the quieter, upper level of the property with white and volcanic red color palette translated through Moroccan ceiling lanterns and intricate carved-wood headboards. Small balcony offers as good a view as any room, but limited from a small standout space big enough for a single lounge chair. Larger junior suites and Eden rooms come with their own super-size Jacuzzi in the center of the living area or outside at the edge of a large, private outdoor space with seated patio that’s covered in poorly selected outdoor carpeting ala Astroturf. While the location cannot be denied, sometimes lackluster rooms mean that your best spot is simply poolside until a wider refurbishment of the hotel.
